Luminato 2008 Interactivity for Light Play Installation
Project Summary: Interactive light show to run on a giant canopy of LED lit balloons installed above the Yonge-Dundas square for the Luminato Festival 2008. Coproduced with Gabe Sawhney and David MacAllum.
Description: Interactivity for the balloon installation made up of 250 4-6 foot balloons strung above the square from a spider's web of cables. Each balloon lit from inside by an array of red, green and blue LEDs (for infinite colour mixing possibility). The physical installation is the work of KPMB architects and we provided design and creation of a series of lighting effects and the system to trigger them based on sounds picked up from the square below.
TXTris - interactive SMS wall
Project Summary: A Media Lab Toronto coproduction, the TXTris wall is a interactive SMS message installation that is 'aware' of obstacles placed in front of the projection. See it in action at Media Lab Toronto.
Process: The software application was written from scratch (in Processing, by me) and was displayed as a wall sized projection with a 6-foot DIY cityscape placed in front of the screen.
Outcome: TXTris was installed at the Toronto CaseCamp6 event to showcase interactive media. The wall got a lot of use during the evening and the combination of low (carboard city) and high tech (SMS text message projection) seemed to strike a chord with people.
